Stage Set Design & Construction

I spent a few years helping out theatre groups designing, building and painting stage sets for annual productions.

I gained a lot of experience in working on a large scale and creating various textures on panels, from rough wood to metal and fabrics.

Not all design ideas were constructed.. due to time, space or the speed required for set changes.

I built some mechanics within the sets at times; for example, in the Aladdin performance the laundrette had reversible hinged panels to quickly change the stage from inside to outside. Also, the cave door “boulder” was able to slide open, operated by cable through a pulley wheel system.

The images here are of my planning drawings and the stage sets from these productions: Oklahoma, Aladdin, The Wiz (Wizard of Oz), Below Stairs and Annie.
